Tapai ubi untuk mencegah dan Merawat kanser?
JANGAN terkejut sekiranya satu hari nanti anda perlu menjadikan tapai ubi sebahagian dari menu harian semata-mata untuk menjaga kesihatan meskipun ia bukanlah makanan yang sesuai diambil setiap hari.
Lebih menarik kerana tapai ubi mudah dihasilkan dengan kaedah yang murah berbanding makanan kesihatan lain sama ada dalam bentuk pil atau cecair yang mahal dan tidak dapat dipastikan keberkesanannya ke atas tubuh anda.
Apa yang berlaku, proses penapaian ubi menghasilkan sejenis bahan dikenali sebagai bakteriosin.
Bakteriosin ini dihasilkan oleh sejenis bakteria asid laktik yang dipencil atau diasingkan dari tapai ubi (Manihot esculanta) dan didapati berkemampuan mencegah kanser.
Di Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), sekumpulan penyelidik sedang berusaha untuk mencari kemungkinan bahawa tapai ubi boleh dimakan sebagai makanan tambahan atau makanan berfungsi selepas mendapati kemampuannya mencegah penyakit kanser.
Kumpulan tersebut terdiri daripada Dr. Latifah Saiful Yazan sebagai ketua penyelidik, yang merupakan seorang pensyarah di Jabatan Sains Perubatan, Fakulti Perubatan dan Sains Kesihatan.
Beliau menjalankan penyelidikan tersebut bersama tiga pensyarah lain dengan kepakaran yang berbeza-beza iaitu Prof. Madya Dr. Foo Hooi Ling dan Prof. Madya Dr. Raha Abdul Rahim dari Fakulti Bioteknologi dan Sains Biomolekul serta Dr. Loh Teck Chwen dari Fakulti Pertanian.
Menurut Latifah, kajian beliau sebelum ini lebih menjurus kepada aktiviti sitotoksik sesuatu agen atau sebatian, atau secara ringkasnya ke arah pencarian sesuatu agen atau sebatian yang berkemampuan untuk membunuh sel-sel kanser pada peringkat in vitro (ujian dalam makmal).
Proses penyaringan seumpamanya telah dijalankan oleh Institut Kanser Nasional, Amerika Syarikat (AS) semenjak tahun 1960.
Kaedah ini lebih murah, memerlukan sampel yang sedikit, mudah dan cepat jika dibandingkan dengan kaedah yang menggunakan haiwan.
Oleh kerana kebanyakan ubat anti kanser membunuh sel dengan berkesan, bahan-bahan ini juga dikenali sebagai agen sitotoksik dan inilah asas kepada penyaringan tersebut.
Pada masa yang sama, Prof. Madya Dr. Foo Hooi Ling telah berjaya mengasingkan bakteriosin yang dikenali sebagai bakteriosin UL4 yang dihasilkan oleh Lactobacillus plantarum UL4 (sejenis bakteria asid laktik).
Bakteriosin UL4 ini didapati berkemampuan untuk menyekat atau merencat pertumbuhan beberapa jenis patogen atau mikroorganisma yang boleh menyebabkan penyakit seperti Bacillus aureus, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, Enterococcus faecium, Enterococcus feacalis dan Listeria monocytogenes.
Selain itu, ia juga boleh bertahan pada suhu setinggi 1210C selama 15 minit dan suhu serendah 150C selama 60 hari dan dalam julat pH yang besar, iaitu di antara pH 2-5 (pH berasid) dan pH 7-8 (pH beralkali).
Berdasarkan ciri-ciri hebat itu, bakteriosin tersebut dilihat berpotensi besar untuk menjadi bahan pengawet semula jadi dan mesra pengguna di dalam pelbagai industri makanan seperti makanan yang dibekukan dan hasilan makanan berasid dan beralkali.
“Disebabkan ciri-ciri tersebut jugalah, kami bercadang untuk menguji aktiviti sitotoksik bakteriosin tersebut terhadap beberapa jujukan sel kanser yang kami ada,” katanya kepada Utusan Malaysia.
Secara amnya, di dalam kaedah untuk menguji aktiviti sitotoksik ini, sel-sel kanser yang dibiakkan di dalam telaga yang terdapat pada plat 96-telaga atau plat mikrotiter dirawat dengan bakteriosin pada kepekatan yang berbeza-beza dan dibiarkan selama 72 jam di dalam kebuk karbon dioksida. Prinsipnya agen atau bahan yang sitotoksik akan merencat pembahagian sel dalam kultur.
Oleh itu, pada kepekatan yang berkesan bagi agen atau bahan tersebut, sel-sel tidak akan tumbuh membahagi dan memenuhi ruang telaga tersebut.
Kesan perencatan tersebut boleh dianalisis melalui beberapa teknik dan yang paling mudah adalah melalui asai kolorimetri dan bukan radioaktif menggunakan garam tetrazolium MTT.
Latifah mendapati bahawa bakteriosin telah menunjukkan keputusan yang positif dalam menghalang pertumbuhan sel-sel kanser berkenaan.
Bagaimanapun, beliau tidak melihat bakteriosin berpotensi untuk dibangunkan sebagai agen untuk mengubati kanser kerana nilai IC50 (kepekatan yang berkemampuan untuk mengurangkan bilangan sel sebanyak 50 peratus berbanding kawalan) adalah agak tinggi.
Dengan kata lain, sekiranya sesuatu bahan atau sebatian yang digunakan untuk membunuh sesuatu sel perlu pada tahap kepekatan sehingga separuh daripada bahan dalam uji kaji kawalan dalam makmal, ia dianggap tidak sesuai dijadikan ubat.
“Oleh kerana itu, kami cuba memandang kemampuan bakteriosin dari sudut yang berbeza.
Walaupun tidak mampu mengubati kanser, siapa tahu ia mampu untuk mencegah dari mendapat kanser.
Latifah berkata, geran yang diperoleh dari MAKNA tersebut akan digunakan untuk menguji secara teliti kesan bakteriosin ke atas tikus makmal yang diaruhkan untuk mendapat kanser kulit.
Tikus-tikus tersebut akan diaruh menggunakan bahan kimia pemula dan penggalak kanser.
Dalam pada itu, bilangan dan saiz tumor yang terbentuk akan diperhatikan.
“Insya-Allah, sekiranya penyelidikan yang dijangka memakan masa dua tahun ini menunjukkan hasil yang memberangsangkan, kami berhasrat untuk membangunkan bakteriosin sebagai makanan berfungsi,” katanya.
BETIK UBAT KANSER?
Daun Papaya atau betik mengandungi minerals and vitamins (A, C, B complex,b17, Vitamin k and E).
Rebuskan 2 helai daun betik bersama 1liter air mineral.
Biarkan ia mendidih dan menjadi ½ liter air. Amalkan 4 jam sekali.
1 Gelas sekali minum. 6 gelas sehari. Akan membantu menghilangkan kesakitan akibat penyakit kanser dan membunuh sel kanser sebab ia mengandungi B17.
Di dalam buku Papaya as Medicine, pengarangnya menggunakan muka surat 75-87 untuk menceritakan pengalaman-pengalaman penderita kanser (atau kanker di Indonesia), kebanyakannya orang Australia, sembuh dengan izin Allah, dengan meminum air rebusan daun betik.
Caranya (lihat m.s 79-80):
1. Ambil 7 helai daun yang sederhana besarnya — daun betik yang tidak terlalu tua, dan tidak terlalu muda.
2. Basuh daun2 itu dan toskan.
3. Potong daun2 itu kecil2 seperti kita potong kobis.
4. Masukkan daun yang sudah dipotong ke dalam periuk bersama 2 liter air sejuk.
5. Rebus perlahan2 sehingga mendidih dan air menjadi setengah.
6. Tapis dan masukkan ke dalam bekas kaca.
7. Simpan di dalam peti sejuk sehingga 3 atau 4 hari.
8. Minum sebanyak 50 ml tiga kali sehari.
9. Kalau air sudah menjadi keruh (cloudy) sila buang.
Wahai tuan dan puan yang menderita kanser cubalah minum air rebusan daun betik. Belum cuba belum tahu. Tidak salah untuk mencuba. Hanya dengan rahmat dan izin Allah, kita akan sembuh…dan boleh terus membantu Allah dan hambaNya. Wallahu a’lam (Allah lebih mengetahui).

Buah betik atau ( Carica Papaya ) merupakan salah satu buah-buahan tropika yang sangat berhasiat dan ajaib dari sudut rawatan yang sangat luar biasa. Buah Betik merupakan sumber makanan yang kaya dengan Vitamin C dan Vitamin A. Buah ini telah dipilih oleh WHO untuk meningkatkan kadar Vitamin A pada kanak-kanan di negara-negara miskin yang mengalami kekurangan Vitamin seperti Cameroon dan Sri Lanka.
Buah betik sangat terkenal dalam penggunaan rawatan Kanser di Mexico. Kajian menunjukan betik mempunyai sifat melawan kanser kerana mengandungi sebatian anti kanser carotenoids yang di kenali sebagai lycopene, beta-carotene dan cryptoxanthin. Benzyl isothiocyanate dijumpai dalam buah betik berfungsi untuk menginduksi apoptosis dalam pankreas, prostat, leukemia dan menghalang karsinogen pada kanser pundi kencing.
Kesembuhan Breast cancer ( kanser Payudara ) sangat rapat hubunganya dengan memakan betik. Benzyl isothiocyanate di temui dalam buah betik dan bijinya telah terbukti secara selectively induce apoptosis di dalam sel kanser payu dara tubuh manusia. Papaya Extract Thwarts Growth of Cancer Cells in Lab Tests
ScienceDaily (Mar. 10, 2010) — The humble papaya is gaining credibility in Western medicine for anticancer powers that folk cultures have recognized for generations.
University of Florida researcher Nam Dang, M.D., Ph.D., and colleagues in Japan have documented papaya’s dramatic anticancer effect against a broad range of lab-grown tumors, including cancers of the cervix, breast, liver, lung and pancreas. The researchers used an extract made from dried papaya leaves, and the anticancer effects were stronger when cells received larger doses of the tea.
In a paper published in the Feb. 17 issue of the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, Dang and his colleagues also documented for the first time that papaya leaf extract boosts the production of key signaling molecules called Th1-type cytokines. This regulation of the immune system, in addition to papaya’s direct antitumor effect on various cancers, suggests possible therapeutic strategies that use the immune system to fight cancers.
The papaya extract did not have any toxic effects on normal cells, avoiding a common and devastating consequence of many cancer therapy regimens. The success of the papaya extract in acting on cancer without toxicity is consistent with reports from indigenous populations in Australia and his native Vietnam, said Dang, a professor of medicine and medical director of the UF Shands Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office.
“Based on what I have seen and heard in a clinical setting, nobody who takes this extract experiences demonstrable toxicity; it seems like you could take it for a long time — as long as it is effective,” he said.
Researchers exposed 10 different types of cancer cell cultures to four strengths of papaya leaf extract and measured the effect after 24 hours. Papaya slowed the growth of tumors in all the cultures.
To identify the mechanism by which papaya checked the growth of the cultures, the team focused on a cell line for T lymphoma. Their results suggested that at least one of the mechanisms employed by the papaya extract is inducing cell death.
In a similar analysis, the team also looked at the effect of papaya extract on the production of antitumor molecules known as cytokines. Papaya was shown to promote the production of Th1-type cytokines, important in the regulation of the immune system. For that reason, the study findings raise the possibility of future use of papaya extract components in immune-related conditions such as inflammation, autoimmune disease and some cancers.
Bharat B. Aggarwal, Ph.D., a researcher at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, already is so convinced of papaya’s restorative powers that he has a serving of the fruit every day.
“We have always known that papaya has a lot of interesting things in there,” said Aggarwal, a professor in the center’s department of experimental therapeutics who was not involved in the UF research. Foremost among papaya’s health-promoting agents is papain, papaya’s signature enzyme, which is found in both the fruit and the leaves.
“This paper has not gone too much into identifying the components responsible for the activity, which is just fine. I think that is a good beginning,” Aggarwal said.
Aggarwal also noted that papaya extract’s success in reducing cancer in laboratory cell cultures must next be replicated in animal and human studies.
“I hope Dr. Dang takes it further, because I think we need enthusiastic people like him to move it forward,” Aggarwal said.
Dang and a colleague have applied to patent the process to distill the papaya extract through the University of Tokyo; the next step in the research is to identify the specific compounds in the papaya extract active against the cancer cell lines. For this stage, Dang has partnered with Hendrik Luesch, Ph.D., a fellow UF Shands Cancer Center member and a professor of medicinal chemistry. Luesch is an expert in the identification and synthesis of natural products for medicinal purposes, and recently discovered a coral reef compound that inhibits cancer cell growth in cell lines.

Broccoli Component Limits Breast Cancer Stem Cells, Study Finds
ScienceDaily (May 5, 2010) — A compound derived from broccoli could help prevent or treat breast cancer by targeting cancer stem cells — the small number of cells that fuel a tumor’s growth — according to a new study from researchers at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The study tested sulforaphane, a component of broccoli and broccoli sprouts, in both mice and cell cultures. Researchers found sulforaphane targeted and killed the cancer stem cells and prevented new tumors from growing.
“Sulforaphane has been studied previously for its effects on cancer, but this study shows that its benefit is in inhibiting the breast cancer stem cells. This new insight suggests the potential of sulforaphane or broccoli extract to prevent or treat cancer by targeting the critical cancer stem cells,” says study author Duxin Sun, Ph.D., associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences at the U-M College of Pharmacy and a researcher with the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Results of the study appear in the May 1 issue of Clinical Cancer Research.
Current chemotherapies do not work against cancer stem cells, which is why cancer recurs and spreads. Researchers believe that eliminating the cancer stem cells is key to controlling cancer.
In the current study, researchers took mice with breast cancer and injected varying concentrations of sulforaphane from the broccoli extract. Researchers then used several established methods to assess the number of cancer stem cells in the tumors. These measures showed a marked decrease in the cancer stem cell population after treatment with sulforaphane, with little effect on the normal cells. Further, cancer cells from mice treated with sulforaphane were unable to generate new tumors. The researchers then tested sulforaphane on human breast cancer cell cultures in the lab, finding similar decreases in the cancer stem cells.
“This research suggests a potential new treatment that could be combined with other compounds to target breast cancer stem cells. Developing treatments that effectively target the cancer stem cell population is essential for improving outcomes,” says study author Max S. Wicha, M.D., Distinguished Professor of Oncology and director of the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The concentrations of sulforaphane used in the study were higher than what can be achieved by eating broccoli or broccoli sprouts. Prior research suggests the concentrations needed to impact cancer can be absorbed by the body from the broccoli extract, but side effects are not known. While the extract is available in capsule form as a supplement, concentrations are unregulated and will vary.
This work has not been tested in patients, and patients are not encouraged to add sulforaphane supplements to their diet at this time.
Researchers are currently developing a method to extract and preserve sulforaphane and will be developing a clinical trial to test sulforaphane as a prevention and treatment for breast cancer. No clinical trial is currently available.

The therapy has 3 parts to it: (1) vitamin B17, (2) vitamins and enzymes, and (3) diet
It has been suggested that the most important single consideration is to get the maximum amount of vitamin B17 into your body in the shortest possible time. However, there are two other pieces of information to add to this. Firstly, that for those with cancer, especially if the cancer is widespread, there may be side-effects such as nausea and feeling giddy when first starting to take either the laetrile (concentrated form of vitamin B17) or apricot kernels, if too high a dose is taken initially. If the B17 is working effectively, it will release toxins through the excretory organs of the body, including the skin – so it is helpful to have a good fluid intake. Please see the notes on ‘Toxic Crisis – coping with reactions. Please also note that B17 may lower blood pressure. ‘It is therefore best to increase the dose gradually over the first few days, starting with half a 500mg tablet or one kernel, and to drink water (try at least six to eight 8oz glasses per day). Dr Binzel does not start his patients on high doses of laetrile until they have been on vitamins and enzymes and changed their diet for ten to fourteen days. So it would seem a good idea to increase the amount of kernels or tablets taken very gradually over a period of ten days or so, while also adjusting to the multivitamin/mineral and other supplements suggested and also getting used to the change in diet and to the detoxification taking place.
Vitamin B17 1 (for information on suppliers of laetrile and apricot kernels see ‘Contacts – Suppliers’)
After the initial period of adjustment mentioned above, the recommendation for a period of 21 – 30 days is:
5 South African size apricot kernels per waking hour up to a total of 30 – 50 kernels per day,
(NB kernels vary in size: Californian kernels are large in comparison with e.g. Hunza and some South African kernels. If using small kernels, the equivalent measurement is approximately 2 – 3 gms per waking hour up to a total of 20 – 30 gms per day) and/or
3gms laetrile intravenously twice per day (2 vials directly into any vein or catheter). (Some clinics give 9gms intravenously, daily) or
Six to ten of the 500mg laetrile tablets per day, spread out during the day (see FAQ for more information)
If both laetrile and kernels are taken, then Dr Krebs recommends that there should be two hours between taking one and the other, i.e. don’t take laetrile and kernels at the same time. While high doses of laetrile are taken, the number of kernels taken can be less.
At the end of this period, it is suggested that two – three 500mg tablets be taken per day, indefinitely. (Binzel lowers the dose gradually over three months down to two tablets 500mg per day thereafter).
Vitamins, minerals and enzymes (giving the range suggested by different practitioners)

Multivitamin/mineral – no level is suggested. So see Patrick Holford’s suggestions in his New Optimum Bible (Piatkus, London 2004) and 100% Health (Piatkus London 1998 ) for more details on vitamin and mineral levels. Therapeutic ranges for adults suggested by Patrick Holford include 50mg of main B vitamins and others in proportion, 400-1000iu vitamin D, 100-1000iu vitamin E, 800-1200mg calcium, 400-800mg magnesium, 2.5-15mg manganese, 25-100mcg selenium, 15-50mg zinc. Trace minerals are also important.
Zinc is the transportation mechanism for the laetrile. In the absence of sufficient quantities of zinc, the laetrile does not get into the tissues. A therapeutic dose is 15 – 50mg daily.
Vitamin C 2 – 5 gm (i.e. 2000-5000mg) daily (at least 6gm while high dose of vitamin B17 is taken) Binzel used oral vitamin C in his successful programme. However, recent results confirm what Linus Pauling suggested 30 years ago, that vitamin C taken intravenously (rather than orally) can effectively fight cancer. So this would be worth pursuing. e.g. see WDDTY Review May 2006. NB When reducing from high levels of vitamin C, please do so gradually.
Vitamin E 800 – 1200 international units daily. (FamilE by Jarrow Fromulas contains all 8 forms of vitamin E.)
Vitamin B15 (pangamic acid) 100mg three times daily – detoxifies the liver and enhances oxygen intake.
Pancreatic (digestive) enzymes – supplement with meals and between meals – please read our notes on ‘The Importance of Enzymes’
Vitamin A (e.g. A + E emulsified drops4 15,000 i.u. vitamin A per drop). The emulsified form is non-toxic. (125,000 i.u. recommended daily – Binzel p98) Beta-carotene is also non-toxic; retinol is safe up to 10,000-50,000 i.u. daily.3 (see Patrick Holford’s New Optimum Nutrition Bible page 427)
Herbal and Natural Supplements. There are a number of preparations which are specifically anti-cancer, sometimes helping a specific type of cancer, e.g. skin cancer. Then, there is another group of natural supplements which are anti-cancer in so far as they boost the immune system. See ‘Herbal and Natural Supplements’ below.
Check pH levels of saliva (representing body fluids). (pH 7.4 is normal, cancer cells will die at pH 8.5) Supplement with coral, alkaline minerals (+ vegetables) to increase pH levels. See ‘Herbal and Natural Supplements’ below.
Diet
For those with cancer, a restricted diet is recommended – very restricted for four months, then if the patient is doing well, it is liberalised to a certain extent. The restricted diet is:
Vegetarian (it takes large quantities of pancreatic (digestive) enzymes to digest meat – these are the enzymes that dissolve the protein lining of the cancer cells which can then be killed by white blood cells) i.e. no meat (including chicken), fish, and no dairy produce. Milk contains growth factors and hormones known to promote breast and prostate and other types of cancer – Professor Jane Plant CBE The Plant Programme (Virgin, London 2001) p9. This is a recipe book. To be convinced that your body can ingest sufficient calcium without resorting to dairy products, and for ideas to substitute in your diet also see her book Your Life In Your Hands (Virgin, London 2000). Plant is an eminent scientist and this book contains detailed research together with her own story of fighting breast cancer five times. See also our notes ‘Should we be avoiding dairy?’
Fresh vegetables and fruit – should be eaten raw if possible because cooking destroys enzymes. (Juicing is a delicious way of ingesting raw fruit and vegetables – see ‘Recommended Books’.) Cook vegetables lightly if necessary. Eat a wide variety, and eat the seed of the fruit e.g. apple pips, grape seeds, peach kernels.
Use whole foods, not refined. Organic if possible.
Cut out sugar (and honey) and don’t substitute artificial sweeteners. Cancer cells live on sugar fermentation. Healthy cells use oxygen to release energy.
No caffeine. Herb teas OK. Fresh juices. NB Keep a good intake of liquid. Pure water is ideal. This helps in the detoxification process.
After 4 months, if the patient is doing well, the diet is liberalised to include chicken, turkey and fish. 90% of the diet should be as above plus chicken, turkey and fish. The other 10% can be red meats, cooked vegetables.
Must always stay on vitamins, enzymes supplements and laetrile (1gm daily)

If you have cancer the most important single consideration is to get the maximum safe amount of vitamin B17 into your body in the shortest period of time.
Initial phase: B17: 3gms intravenous 2 times per day for 21 days. (2 vials directly into any vein or catheter) or 6 to 10 x 500mg tablets orally per day for 21 days.

It is good to take the apricot seeds with the B17 tablets – they contain components not included in the vitamin. A high intake of kernels is not necessary if you are taking tablets as well. What should I take alongside B17?
Worldwithoutcancer website quote Dr Contreras of the OASIS Hospital, Playas de Tijuana, Mexico. He recommends taking pancreatic enzymes, vitamin C, pangamic acid (B15), shark cartilage, vitamin A (emulsified), Barley Grass, antioxidants and other nutrients. The idea is to attack the cancer very aggressively, without doing any harm to the patient, while strengthening the immune system.

Binzel, Philip E. Alive and Well (American Media, California 1994)
Dr Binzel, an American GP, offered his patients vitamin B17 and nutritional therapy for 18 years until his retirement. His book covers the results of those 18 years. A summary of his therapy: the whole objective of this nutritional programme is to do two things:
To put into the body the nutritional ingredients that the body needs in order to allow its immunological defence mechanisms to function normally, and
to take away from the body those things that are detrimental to the normal immunological defence mechanisms.
There are three parts to this programme:
Vitamins and enzymes
Nitrilosides (vitamin B17/laetrile/kernels)
Diet
Vitamins and Enzymes to be taken with meals
Multiple vitamin – 1 twice daily
Vitamin C – 1 gram twice daily, increasing to at least 6 gms daily while taking high doses of laetrile
Vitamin E 400 units – 1 twice daily
Univase Forte (formerly Megazyme Forte) (a combination of trypsin, chymotrypsin, bromalin and zinc) – 2 three times daily
Pangamic acid (B15) 100mg – 1 three times daily
Emulsified vitamin A providing 125,000iu daily. (The equivalent of A&E emulsified drops would be about 8 drops with 15,000 iu vitamin A per drop)
Binzel stresses the need for zinc, to be able to absorb the vitamin B17 – take separately if not in enzyme supplement. (A therapeutic dose is 15 – 50mg daily)
Nitrilosides i.e. Vitamin B17
Dr Binzel uses Amygdalin (Laetrile) available in 500mg tablets and in vials (10cc-3gms) for intravenous use. The dosage he uses is as follows: for three weeks
intravenous Laetrile is given three times weekly for three weeks with at least one day between injections. Dosage: 1st dose 1 vial (3gms); 2nd and 3rd dose 2 vials (6gms); 4th- 9th dose 3 vials( 9gms).
The oral dosage is given in a dosage of 1gm daily (two 500mg tablets) on the days on which the patients do not receive the I.V. Laetrile. (adding the intravenous and oral doses together they total 79gms over 19 days i.e. average just over 4gms per day)
Dr. Binzel has them take both tablets at the same time at bedtime on an empty stomach with water. The water is important because there are some enzymes in the fruits and vegetables and in their juices which will destroy part of the potency of the Laetrile tablets while they are in the stomach. Once the stomach has emptied, this is no problem. (However, other sources recommend taking the tablets while having food in the stomach. Personally we have found having food in the stomach best – but not raw fruit or vegetables because they contain enzymes – see Frequently Asked Questions)
The next three months
Following this first three weeks of I.V. injections, the patient then has one injection of 1 vial – 3gms once weekly for three months. If the patient notices a considerable difference in the way he feels when the injections are reduced to once weekly, the injections are increased to two or three times a week for three weeks. This is repeated as often as necessary until the patient notices no difference with the reduced dosage. Eventually just one gram per day is taken orally, and this is continued indefinitely.
NB. Dr Binzel does not start his patients on their Laetrile, either I.V. or orally, until they have been on their vitamins and enzymes and diet for a period of ten days to two weeks. He finds that the Laetrile seems to have little or no effect until a sufficient quantity of other vitamins and minerals are in the body. Zinc, for example, is the transportation mechanism for the Laetrile. In the absence of sufficient quantities of zinc, the Laetrile does not get into the tissues. The body will not rebuild any tissue without sufficient quantities of Vitamin C. When he starts the Laetrile he also increases the dosage of Vitamin C by 1 gm every third day until they reach a level of at least 6gms. (When reducing from high levels of vitamin C, please do so gradually.)
The level of nitrilosides in the body can be monitored. When the body metabolises nitrilosides, the by-product is thiocyanate. Thiocyanate levels in the blood can be measured. Dr Binzel finds in general, that patients who do best are those in whom the thiocyanate level is between 1.2 and 2.5 mg/DL. (A beneficial side-effect is that thiocyanate is known as a natural regulator of blood pressure.) (Griffin p 91)
Laetrile is not the only source of nitrilosides. There are some 1500 foods that contain nitrilosides. These include apricot kernels, peach kernels, grape seeds, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, bean sprouts, butter beans, and macadamia nuts. The advantage of taking laetrile is that it can raise the nitriloside level in the body (and, thus, re-establish the body’s second line of defence against cancer) much more rapidly than can be done by diet alone.
Diet For patients:
If it is animal or comes from animals you cannot have it! i.e. all meat, poultry, fish, eggs, cheese, cottage cheese and milk. Reason: it takes large quantities of digestive enzymes to process animal protein (these are the enzymes that dissolve the protein lining of the cancer cells which can then be killed by white blood cells). Patient would be on this diet for a minimum of 4 months. To restore the enzymes back into the body for the first line of defence.
If it does not come from animal you can eat it, but not cook it! Reason: fresh fruit and vegetables contain important enzymes, but any temperature over 130 degrees will destroy enzymes. For this reason fruits and vegetables may not be cooked, canned or bottled. They may be frozen at home, but commercial frozen food has often been processed in some way.
i.e. diet with lots of salads.
Salad dressings: use vegetable oil and no refined sugar – use molasses or honey.
Use sea salt in moderation, iodised is fine. Use herbs and spices.
No white flour or white sugar. No food preservatives.
Eat as wide a range of vegetables as possible. Aim for 60% vegetables and 40% fruit.
Also wide variety of fruit – except for citrus fruits, eat the seeds of the fruit – apple seeds, grape seeds, apricot kernels, peach kernels, etc. have a high nitriloside content.
Get protein from vegetables so that you use less pancreatic enzymes for digestion.
Protein content of diet can be cooked.
Wholewheat cereals, pasta, breads. Corn. Buckwheat high in protein.
Butter in small amounts – no margarine (See our comment below)
Nuts high in protein. (Not roasted peanuts because of an acid formed in roasting)
Dried fruit provide protein.
Beans when eaten for protein can be cooked. What can be eaten raw should be.
No milk other than what used on cereal and in cooking. (~See our comment below) No caffeine. Herb teas OK.
At end of 4 months if patient is doing well, diet is liberalised. Add chicken, turkey and fish. 90% of the diet should be as above plus chicken, turkey and fish. Other 10% can be red meats, cooked vegetables.

anticancerinfo comment on Binzel’s regime: we would cut out milk (and all dairy) entirely, substituting olive oil (in recipes substitute 1 tablespoon olive oil for 1oz butter), or use coconut oil as a spread – it is solid at room temperature in northern Europe. Protocol for Laetrile for Cancer Patients
By 1974 Laetrile was being used intravenously 6-9gms daily. Generally it takes an accumulation of 50-70 gms over a period of about a week or 10 days before the patient can report tangible indications of improvements. (p33)
While the use of laetrile (B17) alone has proved to be effective in many instances, even better results usually are obtained with supplemental therapy as well. Dr John Richardson achieved one of the highest recovery rates among Laetrile practitioners (p110)

Vegetable Kingdom
Eat anything. Eat everything whole – all the edible parts, especially roughage. Preferably eaten raw.
If necessary cook very lightly.
Animal Kingdom
Eat any or all fish as fresh as possible and lightly cooked in the absence of animal fats. Eat the skin-free meat of poultry. Whatever does not fall within this formula, forget it. Don’t eat it – i.e. no dairy products, beef, mutton, pork, bacon, ham, etc.
Vitamin supplements

How much vitamin B17 (amygdalin) can I take….?
With cancer: It is most important to eat the kernels and everything else comes after. (Not counting prayer and understanding, which come first). The kernels should be chewed well. A few per hour is what should be ingested when you have cancer. The best results have come when the person eats 3-5 per waking hour. Alternatively they can be ground up and mixed with fruit juice or food, to make sure they get into the system. Some people find eating the kernels cures constipation! If this creates a problem the other way – this usually settles down soon.
Vitamin B17 tablets (amygdalin, laetrile, nitriloside) are water soluble and non-toxic. They are safer than sugar or salt. (However, you can get stomach cramps when you take too much – you must test and see just what your body needs.) Some people get nauseous if they take too much at one time. (This is also common when taking too much sugar, salt or water at one time.) If this is the case, take less amount of the vitamin tablets more often throughout the day. If you presently have cancer, you can have six to ten of the five hundred milligram tablets per day for the first month. (Taking two at a time is fine.) Most individuals with cancer only take 3 – 6 tablets per day. If you find that you are getting nauseous, cut the tablets in half and have one every other hour. It is a good idea to have a little food (but not raw fruit/vegetables) in the stomach just before taking the vitamin. Eating the kernels is different, ingesting vitamin B17 at much lower levels, usually more frequently. Whereas with the tablets it seems best to avoid eating raw fruit at the same time, when eating the kernels www.worldwithoutcancer.com stated that it is also important to eat some nitrilosidic fruits, (e.g. apricots, peaches, plums, nectarines, apples, pears, cherries, grapes) There is something in the flesh of the fruit which will neutralise the minute traces of beta-glucosidase present in the saliva, the stomach and the intestines, which is what may cause some people to feel a bit nauseous.) Many people have found eating dried apricots together with the kernels works well.
NB. Dr Krebs recommended leaving 2 hours between eating kernels and concentrated laetrile tablets, i.e. don’t eat kernels and tablets at the same time.
For prevention: if you do not have cancer Dr Krebs recommends eating 7 – 10 kernels daily. An alternative is taking one or two of the 100mg tablets per day. However, most people just eat the kernels. Dr Krebs states the whole food is best. This means eat the kernels no matter how bitter you think they are.

How soon should I expect results?
In 100% of skin cancer patients dramatic results are seen in just a few days. This is normal when the individual is taking at least 30 apricot kernels per day and a few of the B17 tablets. Bone cancers take the longest. Pain decreases over 80% of the time and completely stops over 50% of the time and is due to the stoppage of the cancer from getting larger and larger. Every cervical tumour we have dealt with has shrunk down within a couple of weeks. Carcinomas can take a few months to shrink.

Will the tumour completely disappear?
Most cancerous tumours will never completely disappear. This is where many people make their mistake of taking more chemotherapy to try to eliminate the tumour. Remember, a cancerous tumour is not fully cancer. It is mixed with benign cells and many times is only 5% to 50% cancerous. A tumour that is 5% cancer might only shrink 5%. A tumour that shrinks 5% will never come up as ‘reduction in size’ on the doctor’s oncology report. It will be reported as ‘no change’. The benign tumour is safe and in its core can even have some live cancer cells that have closed themselves off to the ongoing cyanide in the body…(B17 and kernels). They are of no threat as long as you keep an adequate supply of nitrilosides (foods with B17 in them) in your food intake.

Can I take the B17 and chemotherapy together?
Yes. If you decide to have chemotherapy then taking the Vitamin B17 alongside will give extra strength to the blood and body as well as attacking the tumour. (However some people find it is difficult to do both at the same time and prefer to wait until their chemotherapy is over before starting on the B17 regime.)
Please find out if there is any success rate with chemotherapy with the cancer you have. If the doctor says yes, then ask him if he means success as in cured, or success as in it might extend your life for a few months. If you are about to have an operation where the cancer cells are going to be disturbed, it is imperative that you take the kernels and the vitamin B17 to kill the free cells. Vitamin B17 can only help. It normalises blood pressure and is one of the healthiest foods on earth. It strengthens the arteries and heart and of course targets the cancer cells.

Can I have the kernels and the vitamin together?
Of course. There are many components of the kernels that are not included in the vitamin. The kernels have vitamin B17 in them as well as many other vitamins and minerals that help the actual vitamin B17 assimilate into the body. Remember our scientists have only identified about a thousand vitamins and minerals. They say that there are hundreds of thousands that are still not identified yet. That means that you cannot just be a supplement person. One study showed scientists feeding one group of rats all of the vitamins and minerals known. The second group was given garbage. Can it help me?
The kernels and vitamin B17 will help you even if you’ve been given a short time to live according to the medical prognosis. However, if the latter is the case, much more than just the vitamin B17 and the apricot kernels should be used. If you have just been diagnosed and you’re starting B17 therapy without chemotherapy or radiation you should be fine. SOME THOUGHTS IN CONCLUSION (updated from time to time)
This is a lot of information to take in. Unfortunately time is of the essence when someone has cancer, but it is worth trying to think carefully about what action to take. It is true that it is perfectly feasible to take the vitamin B17 and nutritional therapy alongside chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However, it has to be recognised that the people who have worked with cancer patients state that they have a much better success rate with patients who have not been subjected to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, both of which harm healthy cells as well as cancer cells. As cancer is a chronic metabolic disease, and such diseases have only ever been cured by a change in nutrition, then hitting the immune system with toxic substances might seem to be counterproductive.
If you are considering orthodox treatment, it would be worth asking what the success rate is, ‘success’ not meaning just being kept alive for a few more weeks or months with a quality of life greatly affected by the treatment. During his ten years as a statistician, Dr Ulrich Abel discovered that the method used for treating the most commonly occurring epithelial cancers (lung, breast, prostate, colon and other organs) has rarely been successful. Abel published a summary of the results of chemotherapy, Chemotherapy for Advanced Epithelial Cancer, in 1990. (quoted in Francisco Contreras The Hope of Living Cancer Free Siloam, Florida 1999, p119). Some of the findings Dr Abel published are:
Colon and rectal cancer: There is no evidence at all that chemotherapy prolongs the life of patients
Stomach cancer: There is no evidence of effectiveness.
Pancreatic cancer: The largest study was “completely negative”. The patients who experienced prolonged life were those who did not receive chemotherapy.
Bladder cancer: Chemotherapy is often applied but is not effective. No prospective study has been made.
Breast cancer: There is no evidence that chemotherapy raises the chance for a patient’s survival. Its use is “ethically questionable”.
Ovarian cancer: There is no direct evidence, but it might be worthwhile to research the use of platinum.
Uterine and cervical cancer: There was no improvement in the survival rate of those treated with chemotherapy.
Cancer of the head and neck: There was no benefit to receiving chemotherapy in terms of survival. There was the occasional benefit of reduction of tumour size.
‘The fact is, for most of today’s most common cancers, the ones that kill 90% of cancer patients every year, chemotherapy has never been proved to do any good at all and in fact may do harm.’ 1 Chemotherapy may affect the brain – new evidence shows that systemic chemotherapy for breast cancer or lymphoma can result in a significant decline in cognitive function.1 In The Cancer Handbook edited by Lynne McTaggart, oncologist Dr Albert Braverman is quoted (Lancet, April 13, 1991), “many medical oncologists recommend chemotherapy for virtually any tumour, with a hopefulness undiscouraged by almost invariable failure.” 1
The testimonies at the website www.apricotsfromgod.com are worth reading. They are very encouraging. So, also, is the book by Dr. Philip E. Binzel Alive and Well (American Media, California, 1994). The book World Without Cancer by G. Edward Griffin (American Media, California 1974 and 1997), and the video2 by the same name give an account of the story of vitamin B17 and nutritional therapy. After watching the above video2 Dr Binzel started treating his patients with B17 and nutrition therapy. His book covers the 18 years from that time until his retirement and the phenomenal results that he had.
Most people reading these notes will either have cancer themselves or be reading them with someone else in mind who has cancer. Hopefully these notes will help make a more informed decision, and lead to other websites and publications for more details and organisations for more help. There are many actions that can be taken by individuals themselves to fight cancer. One of the most important is to try and work out what triggered the cancer in the first place. If this is not dealt with then the cancer is more likely to come back again even if treatment is at first successful. For those people who have had cancer and are now in remission, the information contained here will hopefully convince of the need to take action, even if the cancer is not currently a problem. Seize the opportunity to adjust diet and include foods containing vitamin B17, check pH levels and perhaps even have a month of a more concentrated regime to blitz any cancer cells which might be as yet unseen. People who have had cancer once are more susceptible, and perhaps need to take greater care. We have heard from so many people who said they had become complacent and the cancer had returned.
Those who are looking after cancer sufferers are likely to be concentrating their attention on them. However, for cancer to become a thing of the past, a rare disease, it is necessary for us all to take note, and take action. It is far easier to take action before getting cancer, than afterwards. Dr Krebs, who first produced laetrile, the concentrated form of vitamin B17, was concerned that people should nevertheless obtain vitamin B17 from their food. There are many sources of this (see ‘Cancer Prevention – a change in our diet’). However, an easy way to make sure of taking vitamin B17 is to eat 10 -12 apricot kernels per day for life (in two lots of 5-6 kernels with at least one hour in between). This amount will help prevent cancer. According to Dr Krebs if we all did this it is likely that cancer could be confined to the history books.
